We are extremely happy to announce that Sam Macintyre, founding member and guitarist for Marmozets has joined the Laney artist roster.
Sam loved the sound of the Lionheart immediately, then the aesthetic beauty of the Lionheart was the cherry on top, as Sam explains:
“I love the unique clear and powerful clarity you get from a Lionheart, perfect pedal platform for me and my board.”
His first memories of Laney stem back to what we believe to be either a late 80’s Laney Linebacker combo or a mid-90’s Laney GC80 combo, both very loud, both very powerful and also very heavy! But his first proper encounter as a professional musician was while recording their 2014 debut record ‘The Weird and Wonderful Marmozets’ when Sam used a vintage Laney KLIPP from the mid-1970’s across most of the guitar tones on the record.
“I used the Klipp on pretty much everything across that record and then a bit later down the line, got introduced to Laney properly and here we are!”
The West-Yorkshire based rock band have been busy in the studio recently, preparing for a new album and touring cycle having been away since 2018. Sam joins Laney playing Lionheart amplifiers, however not quite your normal Lionheart.
At first glance, these look like Lionheart L20T-212 combos with LT212 cabinets below, and they are, however the good folk at Black Country Customs have changed how the internal speakers work in order for the full ‘4×12’ rig to work correctly. So, how does this work? The internal cable that would usually connect the internal combo speakers to the amplifier in the combo is extended. This means the amp inside the combo is now linked to the external LT212 cabinet, then a return/link is sent from the external cabinet back into the combo to activate the internal speakers within the combo, clever stuff!
The cool aspect of having both the L20T-212 speakers and the external LT212 is the speakers themselves. All Celestion speakers, inside the L20T-212 you have a G12H ‘Greenback’ and a Vintage 30, then the external LT212 is loaded with two G12H ‘Greenback’ speakers. This gives a range of tonal options when it comes to microphone placement on any of the speaker apertures, very cool indeed!
So 2023 looks like a busy one for Marmozets, a new record and a new tour, being on the road is a huge part of the musician lifestyle and one Sam can’t wait to get back in to thoroughly and properly, and we can’t wait to see his glorious Lionheart rig on stage with him! Here you can see our full interview with Sam:
